The role of attachment theory in the recovery journey of young people with eating disorders and their families – a mixed-methods study to support service delivery
Description
Research into attachment argues that communication and interpersonal components of a young person’s life are important elements of any eating disorder treatment plan. There is less evidence about a) the impact of attachment status on the young person during inpatient admission, b) if and how service providers consider the impact of insecure or disorganised attachment during admission, and c) how the knowledge of attachment status can support care to patients/families during/after admission. The study will explore these via a systematic review, survey, and semi-structured interviews. The findings will support the development of attachment-informed guidelines and training materials for health professionals.
