Diet and depression: a new interdisciplinary exploration
Description
Since the pandemic, the charity Magic Breakfast has increased provision in schools by 102%; 200,000 children and young people now benefit from a healthy breakfast every school day as a result of their intervention. A 2017 systematic review found that although there was a demonstrable relationship between diet and depression or poor mental health in children and young people, constructs were largely poorly-defined, or failed to control for important confounding factors (Khalid, Williams & Reynolds, 2017).
This project will focus specifically on children and young people experiencing low mood or flagged as at risk for depression, and will work across schools, homes to identify the most beneficial diet for psycho-social resilience and well-being.
