Understanding the lived experience of time in dementia through life-writing and language studies

This study would examine the lived experience of time in dementia through its representation in life-writing and language studies, focusing on four main areas: memory; expectation; surprise; intersubjectivity. It will use approaches drawn from literary and language studies, philosophy, and psychiatry to think about the implications of losing one’s ability both to remember and to expect and consider the creative ways in which those living with dementia find to anchor themselves in time and organise future time through language and interaction.
