Addressing mental health inequalities in cancer patients from ethnic minority groups across different cancer care pathways
Description
60% of cancer patients experiencing mental health problems accept psychological treatment when offered. However, there is great variability across ethnic groups regarding engagement with psychological support due to barriers to screening, a preference for meeting with people from one’s cultural background, and differences in levels of mental health literacy in terms of being able to know where and when to access mental health support.
Utilizing patient qualitative data and psychometric assessments of mental health and coping, the work sits at the forefront of personalised medicine and seeks to inform healthcare and shared decision-making around cancer care from multi-ethnicity perspective.
