Impacts of early vision loss on mental health and wellbeing
Description
Early vision loss and infantile nystagmus have significant, but little-researched, implications for social functioning, psychological wellbeing, and experienced stigma. Evaluating psychological impacts of early vision loss and nystagmus has been identified as a key research priority by clinicians, patients and carers.
This project will establish the baseline prevalence of mental health diagnoses linked to early vision loss, using big-data analysis with national patient datasets. Following this, you will develop a deeper understanding of impacts of early vision loss on psychological wellbeing through surveys/interviews. The findings will directly impact care pathways, underpinning new diagnosis-specific support for people affected by nystagmus.
