Impact of the NEON Intervention on self-compassion in people from diverse cultures

Description

The Narrative Experiences Online (NEON) Intervention is a mental health intervention using recorded recovery narratives online (PGfAR RP-PG-0615-20016). People with mental health problems log onto the website to access narratives. A key ingredient for impact is connection: an intervention user feels connection to the narrative/narrator, and feels hopeful for their recovery. Connection is central in self-compassion—kindness towards oneself in difficult times. Connection helps distressed people realise that other people also experience similar difficulties. A cross-cultural understanding of self-compassion remains thin. Our PhD project will focus on how the NEON Intervention may impact self-compassion in people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
