Improving dementia care in general hospitals
Dementia, cognitive impairment and delirium have a major impact on the care of older people with physical problems in general hospital wards. Liaison psychiatry interventions including dementia training and delirium pathways can improve staff awareness and dementia care and early work also suggests cognitive stimulation therapy (CST) can support cognition on wards. This project will develop and evaluate a multidisciplinary, multimodal intervention combining CST with dementia staff awareness training, and best practice approaches to support patients cognition, activities and awareness with a view to reducing length of inpatient stay and incidence of delirium.
