Human Enhancement Drugs: Consumption, Identity, Health and Wellbeing
Description
Globalisation has led to a diversification of drugs that now include a range of substances known as lifestyle drugs or Human Enhancement Drugs (HEDs). While there has been a lot of research on some types of HEDs like steroids and cognitive enhancers, there is a dearth of research on users of other HED substances/products, including beauty products (e.g. botox, tanning products), dietary supplements and slimming pills.
This project, therefore seeks to address this gap in knowledge by looking at the sale and use of dietary supplements, slimming pills and beauty products and the perceived impact they have on the users health and wellbeing both physical and mental.
