We are delighted to spotlight Dr David Wenzel who has just released a compelling new video abstract showcasing his research.

David’s work explores some of the most sensitive and complex aspects of end‑of‑life care. His research examines the experiences and impacts of dying while receiving non‑invasive advanced respiratory support, drawing together staff perspectives, family narratives, and ethnographic observation to build a robust, compassionate understanding of care in these ethically challenging settings.

This new video abstract adds to a period of exciting achievement for David. Earlier this year, he published a major paper in BMJ Open titled:
“How do clinicians navigate end‑of‑life care with NIV/CPAP? A thematic analysis study.”
The study highlights the emotional, ethical, and practical challenges clinicians face when supporting patients who use non‑invasive ventilation at the end of life. It also aligns closely with Wellcome’s priorities by bringing lived clinical experience to the forefront of inquiry and addressing the mental and emotional dimensions of healthcare delivery.

David’s work beautifully reflects the ethos of the Midlands MHN DTP: interdisciplinary research, patient‑centred inquiry, and a commitment to improving real‑world health outcomes. His background as both a researcher and a clinician working in palliative and internal medicine with LOROS Hospice, adds depth and humanity to his insights.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate David’s continued contributions. His new video abstract offers an accessible window into a topic that is clinically vital, emotionally resonant, and deeply relevant for improving end‑of‑life care.
