We are delighted to spotlight an inspiring contribution from one of our outstanding new DTP students, Irene Morgan-Brown, whose powerful personal narrative was recently featured as part of the Rehabilitation Matters series by the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC).

In her article, “My Story on Why Rehabilitation Matters”, Irene shares a compelling account of her journey into occupational therapy and the critical importance of rehabilitation in restoring dignity, independence, and purpose to those navigating life after injury or illness. Her piece can be read in full here: Rehabilitation Matters – Irene Morgan-Brown.

Irene brings both academic rigour and heartfelt personal insight to her work, reminding us that rehabilitation is not just a clinical process, but a profoundly human one. Through her research and lived experience, she highlights the transformative power of occupational therapy and the role of holistic care in supporting long-term recovery.

At the heart of Irene’s story is a message we wholeheartedly share: rehabilitation matters. It matters to individuals, to families, to communities—and to the future of healthcare. Irene’s voice adds tremendous value to national conversations on how we can build a more compassionate and effective rehabilitation pathway in the UK.

We are proud to see our students influencing thought leadership beyond the academic sphere, and we commend Irene for her courage, insight, and continued commitment to improving lives through research and practice.

Congratulations, Irene, and thank you for being such a powerful advocate for rehabilitation and the role of occupational therapy.
