Congratulations to MHN DTP Fellow Madiha Majid, who recently presented her research at the 7th IASSIDD European Congress in Munich, Germany.

The service user and carer experience of health and social care service provision for people with intellectual disability with mental health needs: a systematic review and narrative synthesis
The presentation formed part of the prestigious 7th IASSIDD European Congress, held in Munich from 28 to 31 July 2026. The congress brought together researchers, clinicians, practitioners, policymakers and experts from across Europe and beyond to share the latest developments in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Madiha’s research explored the experiences of people with intellectual disability who have mental health needs, alongside the perspectives of their carers, in relation to health and social care service provision. Through a systematic review and narrative synthesis of the existing evidence, the study examined what is known about how individuals and families experience accessing and receiving support, while highlighting areas where services can be improved to better meet their needs.
The work contributes to an important and growing body of evidence focused on ensuring that health and social care services are person-centred, accessible and responsive for people with intellectual disabilities and mental health needs. By bringing together findings from a range of studies, the review offers valuable insights into service experiences and identifies priorities for future research, policy and practice.
Presenting at an international congress such as IASSIDD is a significant achievement and provided an excellent opportunity to share findings with a global audience of researchers and professionals working to improve outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
