Recruitment for 2024 entry is now closed

Expressions of interest closed Friday 1st March 2024 at 4pm.

Applying to this programme is a three stage process.

Stage one consists of submitting an initial expression of interest (EOI) form. The form informs us of your qualifications, relevant experience and research interests. The contents of your EOI will allow us to perform initial eligibility checks.

Initially eligible candidates will be invited to submit a full application. You will be applying for one project, chosen from those listed on the website from 13th November. At this stage candidates are encouraged to develop their application with the lead supervisor of their chosen project and confirm supervisory support.

All applications submitted by the deadline will be reviewed and successfully shortlisted candidates invited to interview.

 

2024 Recruitment Stages
Stage One - Expression of Interest

All applicants to the Midlands MHN PhD Programme are required to submit an expression of interest (EOI) form. The form allows us to review your academic and professional eligibility for the programme.

The form also comprises of an equalities monitoring and widening participation section. This section is used to monitor and improve our equal opportunities policies, and used for reporting to Wellcome as part of our grant commitments. If there are any questions you do not wish to answer, there is a prefer to not say option.

An offline version of the EOI form is available to download here. Please note that only submissions via the official link below will be accepted.

Before you submit your expression of interest form, please complete the following:

  • Read the available information on our website regarding PhD suitability.
  • Assess your eligibility for the programme against our eligibility criteria.
  • Take the time to review the available projects for this year and identify suitable opportunities that align with your research interests.
  • We discourage PhD ‘shopping’ but advise that you reach out to lead supervisors to discuss your suitability for their project. When making initial supervisor contact, please complete and attach an initial contact form to your email.

Once you have submitted your expression of interest form it will be assessed for eligibility against our professional and academic criteria. You will receive an email notifying you of your EOI outcome by no later than Monday 4th March 2024.

If you are assessed as initially eligible, you will move on to stage two.

Stage Two - Full Application & Spring School

Stage two is the full application. All initially eligible candidates will be invited to submit a full application from Monday 4th March 2024.

An offline version of the application form will be made available. Please note that application submissions will only be accepted via the official online submission link that is sent to those identified as initially eligible. 

We encourage all applicants to work with your chosen lead supervisor to create a strong submission for the project as listed under your lead supervisors name on the website.

For all applicants invited to submit a full application we will be running a series of sessions designed to support you with your application. (More information to come)

All applications must be submitted by midnight Friday 12th April 2024.

Stage Three - Interview

All applications received by the deadline will be assessed and candidates will be shortlisted for interview.

Interviews are scheduled to take place across a two week period from Monday 20th May 2024 – Friday 31st May 2024. Invites will be sent by email at least 10 working days before your scheduled date.

Interviews will be online format, comprising of a short presentation, followed by a structured question and answer session. More information will be made available to successfully shortlisted candidates.

2024 Information Session

We hosted an online information session for potential applicants on Wednesday 24th January 2024. The session aimed to provide further information regarding the programme and application process. It included a question and answer session at the end, with responses recorded in Slido.
