The Ebb and Flow of Attention in Schizophrenia: Developing Biomarkers of Attentional Deficits
Description
Human attention is fluctuant: our ability to focus on external events varies over time. Individuals with schizophrenia frequently exhibit difficulties in maintaining attention, affecting their ability to carry everyday activities. While these attentional difficulties are well-documented, the dynamics of the neural process underpinning them is less well understood. A principal goal of the project is to identify biomarkers of attentional deficits in schizophrenia using a combination of imaging techniques (EEG), eye-tracking and psychophysical modelling. We will then be looking to validate the measurement of these biomarkers in a clinically relevant setting with inexpensive portable devices.
