Impact of mindfulness activities, expressive writing interventions and contact with nature on young peoples wellbeing.

Description

The project will assess the impact of Mindfulness, expressive writing and nature contact on young peoples level of depression, anxiety and wellbeing.

Four groups of young people will take part in the study.

1) The mindfulness intervention involves individuals taking aside 1 hour twice a week for 12 weeks for a group Mindfulness session. The first portion of each session is devoted to a short mindfulness exercise and discussion.

2) The Expressive writing intervention is a brief psychosocial intervention, also called written emotional disclosure. Expressive writing interventions are individually focused and designed to improve emotional expression and processing during adaptation to stressful situations.

3) The nature contact intervention will involve a twice weekly (30 min) walk in a natural setting. 

4) A matched control group

The groups levels of depression, anxiety and wellbeing, and an inflammatory marker
(e.g., IL-6) will be assessed before and after the intervention.
