Project area or title

Common mental disorder lifecourse pattern evidence and models for prevention and treatment for years lived with better mental health.

Description

Common mental disorder (CMD) refers to depression and anxiety. Interventional psychiatry trials devote attention only to short term treatment outcomes. Psychologically based and medication approaches are both common. Hardly any attention has been given to long term mental health outcome (such as years lived in good health, a priority in non-communicable disease research). The study options are: (1) to review and secondary analyse available study data on life course patterns of depression, on its prevention and treatment, or (2) to develop long term interventions (service quality improvement programme(s)), and to make evidenced recommendations to research funders and policy developers.
